Reflection of AS Coursework

Digital Technology - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used many different media technologies in the creation of my coursework. I also used many different  computer programmes and different software. Some of the different technology I used was:

  • Video Camera - Shooting footage
  • Camera - Stop motion for animatic
  • Computer - Editing Footage
  • Boom Microphone - Picking up good quality sound
  • Tape - Device for holding footage
I also used a variety of programmes on the computer to make
  • Mind Maps
  • Mood boards
  • Presentations
  • Text Documents
  • Edited footage
  • Edited pictures

Creativity - How did you use media forms to come up with something new and original?

I combined multi-media forms to create a tense, action packed film that was original and cliché but also new and exciting. The audio and video combined created a perfect example of what a real action film may be like. We used an audio track that build suspense plying parallel to a video of a chase scene that also builds suspense.

Research and Planning - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I would say my main product is very effective and the ancillary texts supports what is shown and supposed to be portrayed in the final piece.  Combined, the two make an effective media form that the audience can gather an adequate amount of information from. The text delves into deeper detail about the plot within the film, the characters and the background.

Post Production -What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I received mostly positive feedback aswell as some constructive criticism. I learnt that the audience can be quite opinionated on minor details within the film we created. One comment was 'why would an agent wear red trainers?' The purpose of this was to portray that agent as cool and urban and as we were filming a chase scene, it was the most practical shoes to wear. I learnt that some aspects of the film need to be made more apparent in some cases to please the audience.

Using convections from real media texts - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product supported some of the mainstream convections of a traditional action film such as fast edited chase scenes, weaponry, violence and mild strong language. I don't think our media product challenged any media convections of the action genre. I developed new cliché ideas to include within my film so it would match to other action films quite well which I think I achieved.
